SUMMARY: A new bipartisan bill in South Carolina aims to lower income taxes from the current 6.2% to a flat rate of 3.99% by 2026, potentially decreasing to 2.49% as economic conditions improve. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Bruce Bannister states this reform will ease financial burdens on families and businesses, making South Carolina more competitive compared to neighboring states. The proposal preserves existing deductions for military families, seniors, and families with dependents, while costing about $200 million. Table Rock & Persimmon Ridge fires now considered a complex wildfire
SUMMARY: Two large wildfires in South Carolina, the Table Rock and Persimmon Ridge fires, are now considered a complex wildfire, meaning they are being managed as a single incident. The Table Rock fire has burned 1,156 acres, while the Persimmon Ridge fire is at 314 acres. Over 100 personnel are working to contain the flames, with bulldozers creating firebreaks. Though no structures are immediately threatened, around 500 homes are under voluntary evacuation orders. Difficult conditions, including hurricane debris and dry, windy weather, are complicating firefighting efforts. Burn bans remain in place in both North and South Carolina.
