WWL Flashback: Remembering the ‘Umbrella Man’
SUMMARY: Keith Sam, known as the “Umbrella Man,” spent over 50 years preaching on Canal Street in New Orleans, sharing God’s word with anyone who would listen. He would ride his bike with his Bible and bullhorn, often met with indifference from the bustling crowds. Despite occasional discouragement, Sam remained faithful to his mission, believing he was fulfilling a divine purpose. His message was simple: reflect on your life, recognize its brokenness, and seek improvement. Though his audience was often unresponsive, his unwavering faith and dedication made him a unique figure in the city’s spiritual landscape.
As the late WWL reporter Ronnie Virgets tells us Keith Sam had a purpose that God had given him that he wanted him to fulfill.

Louisiana transit authority spent more than $84K on terminated employees | Louisiana
SUMMARY: An audit of Louisiana’s regional transit authority found improper spending on terminated employees, totaling $84,628 in severance pay, possibly violating Louisiana’s constitutional restriction on public fund use. The audit also revealed issues with 50 random transactions, where receipts and documentation were missing for some purchases. Furthermore, a significant deficiency was identified in the authority’s internal controls due to the transition from an old financial system to Oracle Cloud. This disruption affected the accrual process for accounts payable, but auditors expect the issue to be resolved now that normal procedures have resumed.
