SUMMARY: Parents of college students, listen up! There’s a new workaround for students facing issues with their federal financial aid forms for the 2024-2025 school year. Approximately 2% of FAFSA applicants have been unable to complete their forms because their parents lack social security numbers. However, the education department assures that the immigration status of these students’ parents should not be a barrier. According to a US Representative, this issue, along with a few others, is being worked on. In the meantime, students can at least fill out and submit the form, knowing that the problem will be fully resolved next month.

Senate lawmakers arrived at the Capitol to ensure conference reports were filed, but House Speaker Jason White did not participate. Senate Appropriations Chairman Briggs Hopson cited a “roadblock” with the House docket room closed, preventing the filing of key bills, including those for the 2026 budget and child protective services.
