SUMMARY: The Mississippi Attorney General‘s Office has instructed the City of Jackson to transfer the deed of Smith-Wills Stadium back to the state, citing a breach of the 1944 deed’s terms requiring the land to be used for park purposes. Attorney General Lynn Fitch, referencing House Bill 1983, gave the city until September 30, 2024, to comply or face legal action.
