Woman accused of locking boyfriend’s body in freezer denied appeal to life sentence
SUMMARY: Samantha Simmons, 41, from Purvis, Mississippi, had her appeal denied after being sentenced to life for the 2018 murder of her boyfriend Thomas Burns, whom she locked in a freezer. The couple lived together, and suspicion arose when furniture was moved from Burns’ home. Burns was discovered by his brother, with evidence suggesting Simmons secured the freezer with zip ties, a belt, and a padlock. Her appeal claimed inadequate evidence for murder, but the judge ruled that circumstantial evidence was sufficient to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Simmons is currently held at Delta Correctional Facility.
