Woman accused of killing teacher in car crash released on bond
SUMMARY: Jordan Sullivan, 32, accused of a fatal DUI crash in Madison County, has been released on a $250,000 bond. The crash, near the Gluckstadt exit on Interstate 55, claimed the life of Tyra Small-Jackson, a 48-year-old teacher at Nicholls Middle School in Canton, who was named 2023-24 Teacher of the Year. Small-Jackson died on the scene, and her family is unhappy with the bond decision due to Sullivan's history of DUI. Two other victims were hospitalized but are expected to recover. The Canton Public School District praised Small-Jackson's impactful career in an official statement.

SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
