SUMMARY: The body found in Laurel County has been confirmed as Joseph Couch, the suspect in the I-75 mass shooting that injured five people on September 7th. Governor Andy Beshear expressed gratitude for those involved in the search and relief that no one else was harmed, stating support for the victims and the community. Initial DNA tests were inconclusive, but further testing confirmed Couch’s identity, and an autopsy revealed he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A civilian couple, Fred and Sheila McCoy, discovered the body and are now set to receive the full $335,000 reward.

SUMMARY: Governor Andy Beshear has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of slain Deputy Joshua Fips from Russell County. Visitation will occur at Three Trees Church in Russell Springs from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, followed by the funeral and cremation. Deputy Fips was killed in a shootout with a suspect on September 16th in Eastern Kentucky, who was identified as 41-year-old Joshua Arnold, who also died in the incident.

Visitation for Deputy Josh Phipps will be held at 3 Trees Church in Russell Springs from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
