SUMMARY: Jackson Water has spent a lot of time and money over the past year improving the lifeline of the water system, the Ob Curtis Water Treatment Plant, to prevent it from shutting down during frigid weather. The plant is now under federal control and managed by Jacobs Engineering, which has made operational and structural improvements to prepare for winter freezes. The staffing numbers have also increased, with 50 operators and staff ensuring that water continues to flow to residents even in below-freezing temperatures. Despite the improvements, old pipes in the city’s water distribution system still pose a challenge, but the operators are hopeful that they can maintain enough water pressure to keep the water moving.
