Why are the tropics so quiet right now? | Tracking the Tropics
SUMMARY: Ernesto, once a hurricane, has weakened into a post-tropical cyclone and is expected to dissipate by Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center reported wind speeds of 70 mph as of Tuesday morning, marking the final advisory on the storm. Despite this, swells generated by Ernesto are affecting the northeast U.S. coast and Atlantic Canada, increasing the risk of rip currents and rough surf. Currently, the tropics are calm, with no new developments anticipated in the next week. Discussions will focus on the lack of tropical activity as the peak season approaches.
