Wheelchair-accessible swings installed at Veterans Park in Tupelo

SUMMARY: The city of Tupelo has made Veterans Memorial Park more accessible by adding inclusive wheelchair swings, thanks to the idea of 12-year-old Caleb Rogers, who was born with Cy and rides in a wheelchair. Caleb’s idea came to life after raising $22,000 from 40 sponsors and donors. The swing set was needed to provide people in wheelchairs the opportunity to experience the joy of swinging. Recreation director Lee Maddox is excited about future projects to make more parks inclusive, and the community is grateful for Caleb’s idea becoming a reality. Now, people with disabilities can enjoy the park like everyone else.
