What’s Pi Day all about? Math, science, pies and more
SUMMARY: Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 (3/14) every year as a tribute to the mathematical constant pi, which is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. It has practical uses in physics, astronomy, engineering, and various fields. Pi is an irrational and infinite number, with many digits calculated using sophisticated computers. The day was first celebrated in 1988 and gained national recognition in 2009. Pi Day events include eating pie, math challenges, and educational activities. NASA uses Pi in its calculations, and the day also coincides with Albert Einstein’s birthday.

SUMMARY: Isaac Smith, a safety for Mississippi State, emerged as a football standout at Itawamba Agricultural High School, attracting Division I offers. Coming from an athletic family, with his father playing at Ole Miss, Isaac’s first offer also came from there. However, he felt a strong connection with Mississippi State and its late coach Mike Leach, who he admired for his kindness, including attending a game when Isaac wasn’t playing. Following Leach’s unexpected passing, Isaac sought guidance through prayer and ultimately chose Mississippi State, feeling called to be there. Today, he remains committed, regardless of coaching changes.

SUMMARY: Odis Brown, a World War II veteran and member of the “Greatest Generation,” celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends at Tupelo‘s Apostolic Life Church. Having enlisted in the Marines as a teenager, Brown fought in the Battle of Okinawa and was injured. During the celebration, it was announced that the U.S. military would replace his lost medals and awards due to a house fire decades prior. As the last living WWII veteran of the Andrew Lawhon Detachment of the Marine Corps League, Brown emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices of previous generations and continuing to serve as engaged citizens.
