What will it be?: MUW begins next steps in naming process
SUMMARY: Mississippi University for Women is considering a name change, but after receiving negative feedback on the proposed name “Mississippi Brightwell University,” the school has decided to go back to the drawing board. The consulting firm has generated a list of potential name alternatives, and the university has launched a survey to gauge interest in those names. President Nora Miller said that the decision to change the name is necessary to reflect the university today and increase potential enrollment. The university plans to make an announcement about the name change in February, and the change will require approval from the state legislature. Alumni, students, and prospective students have all expressed their opinions on the potential name change.

Senior QB Jeb Brown, mentored by last year's starter Brewer Bailey, will lead the team. Kimberlin emphasized offseason work's importance. TCPS's season opener is against East Union on Aug. 30.

Mississippi inmate captured wearing only a sheet after escape
SUMMARY: An inmate escaped from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF) on July 5 but was recaptured wearing only a sheet shortly afterward. Authorities, including Rankin County deputies, the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), and local police forces, were alerted around 12:45 p.m. after discovering blood and clothing on the prison's exterior fence. They established a perimeter and searched for the escapee. A suspicious individual in a nearby neighborhood was reported by a citizen, prompting the deployment of K-9 “Voodoo,” who quickly tracked and found the inmate in a lake. The Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) has taken the inmate back into custody and is conducting an internal investigation.
