SUMMARY: Throughout October, the Houston Area Women’s Center is raising awareness about domestic violence, particularly focusing on digital abuse. Deputy CEO Sonia Corales explains that digital abuse involves using technology, like texting and social media, to harass, bully, or intimidate victims, even after they leave an abusive situation. Abusers often exploit technology to track victims’ locations and access personal information. Corales emphasizes the importance of developing personalized safety plans and using secure communication methods, such as public devices or different phones, if a victim’s device is monitored. The Center offers resources for counseling, legal advocacy, and safety planning for those affected.
