What to do if emergency strikes without cell service
SUMMARY: A large AT&T cell service outage left thousands of people unable to make calls. Lowndes County Emergency Management Director Cindy Lawrence emphasized the importance of being prepared with alternate ways of getting information in times of severe weather. She recommended using an old cell phone, a landline, or a NOAA weather radio when experiencing an outage. NOAA weather radios run on battery and broadcast weather information directly from a nearby National Weather Service office. Lawrence also advised visiting a local station to have meteorologists program a weather radio and suggested using Facebook and other online platforms to stay updated with news.
