SUMMARY: A potential amendment to South Carolina’s state constitution regarding voter qualifications is up for voter approval. The proposed change specifies that only U.S. citizens aged 18 and older, who are properly registered, can vote. Notably, the change replaces the term “every citizen” with “only a citizen.” Isaac Kramer, president of the SC Association of Registration and Election Officials, noted that this amendment does not affect current registered voters, including those temporarily residing in the state, such as college students, provided they declare their voting domicile. Kramer emphasized that South Carolina’s elections remain secure and well-regulated.
On Election Day, South Carolina voters will see a question on the ballot that could amend the state constitution regarding voter qualifications.
The proposed amendment seeks to specify that “only” U.S. citizens who are properly registered and aged 18 or older are entitled to vote.
ABC15’s Andrew James consulted experts on what would change, if South Carolinians vote to approve it.

SUMMARY: President Trump has suggested linking tariffs to the future of TikTok, which faces a critical April 5th deadline to secure a non-Chinese buyer or risk a U.S. ban. Trump proposed offering tariff reductions to China in exchange for approving a deal to transfer TikTok’s ownership. The deal could involve Chinese company ByteDance retaining a minority stake, while American-based Oracle manages the app’s data. The U.S. government cites national security concerns, fearing Chinese espionage through TikTok. With a potential tariff increase on auto parts due April 3rd, discussions continue to determine TikTok’s future, with a possible ban looming if no deal is reached.
President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of new tariffs could play a pivotal role in the fate of TikTok, as the popular social media app faces a looming deadline to sell or risk being banned in the U.S.
The Chinese-owned app has until April 5 to secure a non-Chinese buyer.
The president suggested a deal on tariffs might encourage China to authorize a sale.

(The Center Square) – At a U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform hearing, Rep. William Timmons R-S.C., discussed what he said are the dangers of increased government spending, saying that America’s $36 trillion debt and $1.8 trillion annual deficit are unsustainable for the country.
Timmons stressed the importance of bipartisan fiscal scrutiny, stating that all government expenditures, specifically defense and public broadcasting, must be evaluated. He also pointed to the internet’s reshaping of media consumption and closer social interconnectedness as factors in reexamining federal funding.
“We have an existential threat. We cannot continue down this path financially,” Timmons stated during the hearing.

SUMMARY: Several wildfires are ongoing in the Carolinas, notably the rapidly spreading Table Rock Complex Fire, which has consumed over 4,500 acres, and the Persimmon Ridge Fire, affecting over 1,500 acres. These fires have been prioritized for federal firefighting resources, allowing for increased containment efforts. Crews are engaging in difficult hand-built containment due to debris from Hurricane Helene blocking heavy equipment access. In North Carolina, 500 firefighters are working on various fires, including the Black Cove fire at 3,288 acres (17% contained). A state of emergency has been declared in Haywood County due to multiple uncontrolled wildfires.
