Western Kentucky University students survive major fall off Lake Cumberland cliff

SUMMARY: Two Western Kentucky University students survived a fall from a Cliff at Lake Cumberland, thanks to a passerby and swift rescue efforts. The incident occurred early Sunday morning amidst thick fog, which initially obscured the students’ cries for help. Fisherman Josh Knight heard repeated pleas and discovered a young man clinging to a tree after falling about 150 feet. He called 911, and Russell County search and rescue teams found a second student, unconscious after falling between 200 and 250 feet. They set up a rope system for the victims’ retrieval; one was airlifted in critical condition, while the other sustained injuries. Both are now recovering.

Two Western Kentucky University students are fortunate to be alive after falling off a large cliff at Lake Cumberland. The incident happened early Sunday morning.

Active weather pattern kicks in to finish out the year
