MDWFP announces new crappie regulations set to go into effect on July 24
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) has announced new daily creel limits for crappie fishing at Lake Washington and the four flood control reservoirs (Grenada, Enid, Sardis, and Arkabutla), effective July 24. At Lake Washington, the limit is 20 fish per angler with an 11-inch minimum length. At the flood control reservoirs, the limit is 10 fish per angler and 25 per boat for three or more anglers, with a 12-inch minimum length. Fish must be cleaned at designated stations. New legislation pushes Mississippi runoff elections back one week
SUMMARY: New Mississippi legislation, effective January 1, 2025, will extend the runoff election period from three to four weeks post-Election Day. The bill, SB 2144, passed with overwhelming support (118-1 in the House and 50-1 in the Senate), allowing more preparation time for election officials and voters. Senator Jeremy England, chairman of the Elections Committee, stated this extension will enable better-informed voter decisions through candidate debates. Additionally, a ban on ranked-choice voting will take effect on July 1. Despite concerns about potential impacts on voter turnout and campaign costs, England considers these changes beneficial for a cleaner election process.
