SUMMARY: The Cottrell Street Music and Heritage Festival in West Point, Mississippi, recently won the Outstanding New Small Event Under 5,000 at the Mississippi Main Street Awards, bringing renewed attention to a neighborhood that has been revitalizing over the past three years. Historically a bustling hub for the black community from the 1940s to the 1980s, the area declined due to drugs and crime.
