Tropical Storm Milton: Track, Expected Strength at Landfall
SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Milton has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen into a major Category 3 hurricane before hitting Florida on Wednesday. Currently with 40 mph winds, Milton’s conditions are favorable for intensification due to warm waters and low wind shear. Forecasts indicate a direct impact near Tampa Bay, raising concerns about significant storm surge, reminiscent of Hurricane Ian’s devastation in 2022. The area has not faced a major hurricane since 1921. Additional storms, including Hurricane Kirk and Leslie, are being monitored, with another system potentially developing from Africa next week.

Tropical Update: Tropical Storm Milton forms in Gulf of Mexico, expected to head to Florida
SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Milton has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, previously a tropical depression. It’s moving northeast at 3 mph and is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane by Sunday evening, reaching Category 2 by Monday. Milton is projected to impact Florida, particularly the Tampa area, next week, marking the region’s second hurricane in two weeks. Meanwhile, Texas will remain unaffected due to an incoming cold front. Additionally, warm Gulf waters, above 85 degrees, will further fuel Milton’s development. Other storms, Hurricane Kirk and Hurricane Leslie, are staying over open water. Hurricane season lasts until November 30.
The storm is expected to move to the northeast and affect Florida as a tropical storm or possibly a hurricane.
