Weekend Preview – June 13, 2024
SUMMARY: The 41st annual Hattiesburg Juneteenth celebration kicks off this weekend with a parade, live music, arts and crafts, food vendors, and a car show at Vernon Dahmer Park. Events continue with fireworks, a beer and classical music festival, and a Native American exhibit at the Hattiesburg Public Library. Pride month events include a drag brunch and a family-friendly cookout by the Spectrum Center. Father's Day festivities at the Mississippi Aquarium and Hattiesburg Okatoma KOA feature fishing, swimming, and more. An outdoor showing of “Encanto” will also take place. The weather forecast predicts high heat with temperatures reaching up to 100°F.

Jones County man charged with 2nd-degree murder
SUMMARY: A suspect, Dwayne Clark of Laurel, has been charged with second-degree murder following a shooting in Jones County's Powers Community that resulted in the death of Charles Anderson. The Jones County Sheriff's Department responded to a disturbance and shots fired call, after which Anderson was taken to a local hospital where he later died. In his initial court appearance, Clark's bond was set at $250,000. An ongoing investigation is underway, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Barrel is moving towards Jamaica, expected to weaken and then reintensify as it heads towards Texas and Northern Mexico.

Mississippi State launches public survey on black bears
