Wednesday 5PM Tropical Update: Latest look at 2 spots in Caribbean with development potential this w
SUMMARY: Tropical systems typically don’t venture far into the Gulf of Mexico, and current models suggest two monitored systems, one with low development potential and another identified as Invest 94, will mainly move westward without threatening the Gulf. As the season progresses, significant storm activity becomes less common. Historical data since the 1850s supports this trend. Tomorrow’s high will reach 69 degrees with similar afternoon temperatures. Expect chilly mornings leading into Friday, with temperatures in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, and the weekend will remain mild, with highs in the 70s.
WWL Louisiana Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin with the latest New Orleans-area forecast and an eye on the tropics for News at 5PM on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024.

Coldest morning since March 29th then warmer days ahead
SUMMARY: Fire danger has decreased but remains a concern. Currently, two tropical systems are being monitored, with a low chance of development due to cold fronts preventing significant activity. Expect cold temperatures in the area, with tomorrow morning seeing lows around the upper 30s to low 50s, and a high of 70ยฐF later in the day. Winds may create a colder wind chill effect. For outdoor activities, especially grilling, caution is advised. This weekend promises sunshine and warming temperatures, reaching the mid-70s, making it comfortable for events like the Saints game and Oktoberfest festivities.
Meteorologist Devon Lucie starts us off with a quick look at the tropics where he’s still monitoring two systems for possible development but shows you the forecast data that suggest our hurricane season might be winding down for Louisiana, then takes us to Southeast Louisiana where the high resolution forecast will show you just how cold it will be outside your door Thursday morning, how much warmer you’ll get by the afternoon, and how strong the winds will be, then shows you when temperatures will begin to warm back up, highlights the weekend forecast, the sums it all up with the seven day forecast with high and low temperatures, rain chances, how much cloud cover you’ll get, and how strong the winds will be.
