SUMMARY: Last week, a predecessor rainfall event occurred, characterized by heavy rain preceding a tropical system, specifically Hurricane Helim. This event unfolded due to a stalled front that brought significant rainfall 36 hours before the hurricane’s arrival, leading to flooding, particularly in the mountains where totals reached 6 to 10 inches. The storm made landfall and transitioned into a tropical storm in Western North Carolina. The presence of a warm, saturated ground, known as the brown ocean effect, helped maintain the storm’s strength, resulting in higher rainfall totals. Viewers are invited to send weather questions for a weekly Q&A segment.
