Pope rebukes Trump administration over migrant deportations, and appears to take direct aim at Vance
SUMMARY: Pope Francis strongly criticized the Trump administration’s mass deportation plans, emphasizing that such actions degrade the dignity of migrants. In a letter to U.S. bishops, he highlighted the biblical basis for compassion towards migrants and cautioned against equating illegal status with criminality. Francis countered Vice President JD Vance’s defense of the deportation program, emphasizing that Christian love should embrace all individuals, not just those close to home. This marks a continuation of Francis’s advocacy for migrants, as he previously condemned Trump’s policies and stressed the need for nations to offer refuge in light of various crises.
