The most memorable hurricanes to hit the Gulf Coast happened in August and September, such as Betsy, Camille, Frederic, Elena, and Katrina. The practice of naming storms began in 1953, initially using women’s names and later including men’s names as well. Names are retired if the storm caused significant damage. The 2023 hurricane names include Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Don, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harold, Idalia, Jose, Katia, Lee, Margot, Nigel, Ophelia, Philippe, Rina, Sean, Tammy, Vince, and Whitney. SUMMARY: For Thanksgiving, side dishes need to offer both healthful options and comforting favorites. While cornbread dressing is a staple in many households, it is not required for mine, often being replaced by mashed potatoes. I make a make-ahead mashed potato dish that can be stored for up to a week, making it perfect for large gatherings. May your Thanksgiving be full of blessings, whether it’s with dressing, potatoes, or mac-n-cheese.
