Warren County mother sentenced in son’s death
SUMMARY: Brooke Mallett from Warren County, Mississippi, has been sentenced to 30 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the 2023 death of her young son. She received 20 years for manslaughter and two five-year sentences for child neglect. Mallett was found guilty on June 13, 2023. She and her then-boyfriend, John Duke Walker, were arrested in April 2023 after the child’s death. Authorities had been alerted by a resident about a five-year-old with special needs found alone, and later discovered the missing three-year-old deceased in a nearby pond.
