Warmth headed our way by next week
SUMMARY: Temperatures across the area are currently in the low 70s, with some cooler coastal areas. After overnight thunderstorms, some needed rain was collected, particularly in southern regions. A haze from New Jersey wildfires is also affecting the air quality. In the coming days, temperatures are expected to warm up, with highs in the mid-70s Thursday and Friday, rising near 80 by Friday. Rain chances are low but increase over the weekend, especially on Saturday with a cold front. After the front, cooler weather will settle in, but by mid-next week, temperatures will rise again, reaching the mid-80s.

We’ll keep climbing toward 90 degrees as we head into next week, with a small chance for storms on Saturday.

Hegseth had an unsecured internet line in his office for Signal, sources say
SUMMARY:
Hegseth had an unsecured internet line in his office for Signal, sources say. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s trip to a U.S. base at the southern border coincides with turmoil at the Pentagon. CBS News confirmed that Hegseth had an unsecured internet connection for the messaging app Signal, a claim the Department of Defense denies. He is under investigation for sharing sensitive military information via Signal on a personal phone. Security consultant James Lewis warns this poses significant risks. Recently, Hegseth fired advisers over media leaks and threatened Admiral Christopher Grady with a lie detector test amid allegations of reputation damage.

Two people familiar with the case have told AP that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had an internet connection that bypassed the Pentagon’s security protocols set up in his office to use the Signal messaging app on a personal computer. The existence of the unsecured internet connection is the latest revelation about Hegseth’s use of the unclassified app and raises the possibility that sensitive defense information could have been put at risk of potential hacking or surveillance. Also Thursday, a China spokesperson denied any suggestion that it is in active negotiations with the U.S. over tariffs. And the president said it would be impossible to negotiate with dozens of countries and “we are going to, at some point, just set prices for deals.”

Scattered showers and storms Saturday
SUMMARY: Good Saturday morning! After some rain last night, expect more scattered showers and storms today due to a cold front moving east. Areas across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Deep South are affected. There’s a level one risk of severe weather, mainly damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, though hail and tornadoes are unlikely. Morning temperatures are in the upper 60s, rising to the upper 70s to lower 80s by afternoon. Showers are expected to clear overnight, leading to cooler temperatures in the 50s and 60s for Sunday, which will be breezy but mostly sunny.

After a rainy end to the work week, more rain is forecasted on Saturday, with some strong evening thunderstorms possibly occurring.
