Monday Noon Tropical Update: Oscar brings heavy rain and wind to parts of Cuba, The Bahamas
SUMMARY: As we approach the end of hurricane season on November 30th, Tropical Storm Oscar remains barely classified with winds at 40 mph. It is located 80 miles west of eastern Cuba and is moving slowly at just 3 mph toward the Bahamas and then into the open Atlantic, away from the U.S. There are no expected intensifications due to dry air in the Gulf of Mexico. Overall, local concerns are minimal, and the chances of rain are zero as the season winds down.
Oscar will bring impacts to portions of Cuba and The Bahamas over the next few days. Heavy rain, flooding, gusty winds, and mudslides could occur across parts of Cuba through early this week. Oscar will eventually turn to the northeast out to sea and move into the open Atlantic Ocean by midweek.
Nadine has dissipated and is moving west towards the Pacific Ocean. There are no tropical threats expected along the Gulf Coast over the next ten days.

Letlow is likely to keep 5th Congressional District in GOP hands | Louisiana
SUMMARY: In Louisiana‘s 5th Congressional District, incumbent U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow, a Republican, is favored to win the upcoming Nov. 5 election. Letlow succeeded her late husband in 2021 and won re-election in 2022, facing less competition this time with only one challenger from each party. Republican M.V. Mendoza, a former independent candidate and U.S. Air Force veteran, criticizes Letlow’s record, claiming she has failed to address rising costs for families. Meanwhile, Democrat Michael Vallien Jr. has not reported any campaign activity. Letlow boasts a significant campaign fund of $1.85 million.

Morning Forecast – Monday, Oct. 21st
SUMMARY: Today‘s weather features clear, cool, and calm conditions with morning temperatures in the low to mid-40s. A jacket is advisable for early outings, though afternoon highs are expected to reach the lower 80s, transitioning into t-shirt weather. A persistent upper-level ridge is keeping the area dry, limiting rain prospects despite nearby disturbances. Drought conditions remain with moderate to severe levels affecting South Arkansas and parts of Louisiana, along with issued burn bans. An active tropical storm, Oscar, is moving away from the continental U.S. with no threat to the area. Overall, pleasant weather continues throughout the week.
Dry conditions will continue today as high pressure takes hold just to the north. Dry fuels and low dewpoints will support the ongoing fire danger for south Arkansas and parts of north Louisiana. Winds will remain calm and will shift southerly by Wednesday. High pressure will move off to the east, and a weak front will arrive on Thursday. However, this front may stall north of the ArkLaMiss and weaken which diminishes any chance of rain. Temperatures will also range well above average in the mid and upper 80’s. Dry weather seems to prevail this week and into the weekend.
