Lauderdale County Sheriffโs Department warns against scammers
SUMMARY: Scammers are using a method called spoofing to disguise their phone numbers as the sheriff’s department’s number. They call victims, claiming there is a warrant out for missing jury duty and request money, typically through Bitcoin machines or Green Dot cards. Authorities emphasize that they will never request payment over the phone for warrants and that all official communications occur via U.S. mail. The likelihood of locating and prosecuting these scammers is very low. Therefore, individuals should avoid sending money to anyone over the phone, regardless of the circumstances.
