Ward 2 special election set for Tuesday
SUMMARY: Tomorrow, Ross will be busy as Election Central for the Ward 2 special election, following the resignation of City Councilman Angelique Lee amid a federal investigation. Poll managers will prepare ballot boxes and equipment for the election. Voter Latonia Wilson, a daycare owner, expresses high hopes for the incoming councilperson. She seeks solutions to longstanding flooding issues affecting her facility and neighborhood streets. Six candidates are on the ballot, and if no one garners 50% of the vote, a runoff will occur within three weeks. Polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM.

One charged, person of interest sought over 16-year-oldโs death in Columbus
SUMMARY: Columbus police have arrested Jaot Moore in connection with the shooting of 16-year-old Marquez Carter Jr., who has died from his injuries. Moore faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and murder. He is currently detained at the Louns County Adult Detention Center.
Columbus Police announced that a 19-year-old is being charged with murder over the death of another teen.

Several nonprofits win grants from CREATE Foundation
SUMMARY: At a recent event hosted by the Lee County affiliate of the Create Foundation, 25 local nonprofits applied for grants ranging from $2,500 to $110,000. The funds will support projects aimed at positively impacting the community. Various nonprofits, including small startups and larger organizations like Regional Rehab, American Red Cross, and Boys and Girls Club, participated. Notable grants included a $10,000 award to TLO Children‘s Mansion, a $5,000 grant to Good Samaritan Health Services, and $2,500 grants to the Association for Excellence in Education and Boys and Girls Clubs.
Some local nonprofits have come out winners thanks to the Lee County affiliate of the CREATE Foundation.

Pastor saves woman from burning vehicle in Monroe County
SUMMARY: A local pastor, Calvin Chandler, played a heroic role in saving 23-year-old Sarah Steel from a burning car after a head-on collision on Highway 45 alternate. The accident, involving 41-year-old RL Starks, resulted in Starks’ death, but Chandler and three others quickly sprang into action to rescue Steel. Using only their hands and sheer adrenaline, they shattered the car windows and worked together to free her from the wreckage. Steel was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center for treatment. Chandler expressed gratitude for the unnamed heroes and hopes to connect with them on Facebook to thank them personally.
