Volleyball roundup: Region play tips off across the “Southern Six”

SUMMARY: The 2023 prep volleyball schedule has entered region play, with teams competing for a playoff spot. Few upsets occurred, with early-season favorites winning their games. Our Lady Academy swept Pass Christian 3-0 in the only non-region contest. Gulfport and Ocean Springs, preseason favorites in 7A, both opened region play with 3-set sweeps. Biloxi defeated Harrison Central, positioning themselves as challengers to Gulfport and Ocean Springs. In Class 6A, Long Beach, Hancock, and West Harrison all won their first league games. In Class 5A, East Central, Vancleave, and Stone all won their first regional games. Bay High performed well in the Vancleave Tournament.
