VIDEO: Jenkins named Saltillo fire chief
SUMMARY: The city of South Hill has appointed a new fire chief, Jenkins, who brings almost 30 years of fire-fighting experience to the role. Jenkins was previously a captain in Tupelo and later in Saltillo for a total of 12 years and 14 years, respectively. As the new fire chief, Jenkins will be responsible for managing the entire department and securing funds through grants to maintain resources. The department is expected to receive a one million dollar grant for the construction of a new fire station. In addition, the firefighters will receive a six percent raise and will soon have a new garage to wash their fire engines.
Chris Jenkins has been named Saltillo's new fire chief.
Board members approved the move Wednesday evening, July 5.

Young athletes compete in Junior Olympics in Jackson
SUMMARY: The second day of the US Region Six Junior Olympics at Hughes Field in Millsaps showcased various field events. In the 18 and under pole vault, Nick Fallon from Alabama set a personal record by clearing four meters. In the girls' 12 and under pentathlon long jump, Morgan Martinez from Louisiana placed third, while Memphis teammates Allyson Oliver and Coryell Hamilton secured second and first, respectively, with Hamilton jumping 4.39m. In the triathlon high jump, Payton Johnson from New Orleans won by clearing 1.15m, followed by Coy Deming in second. Eight-year-old Jamya Stigall also made a memorable impression. Major track events begin tomorrow.
The US Region 6 Junior Olympics are underway in the Capital City and young athletes from all over the Southeast are competing. The Heptathlon and Decathlon athletes from various age groups 18 under took to Hughes Field and Millsaps College for the second day of competition. The main track and field events get started on Saturday with the finals set for Sunday.

People head to Mill Creek Marina for long weekend
