Victims of deadly house fire near Nettleton identified

SUMMARY: Elderly couple dies in a house fire in Nettleton. Jimmy and Sandra Young were well-known members of the community and their house was completely destroyed in the fire. Firefighters from four different departments responded to the scene, but the flames were too intense to save much of the house. Sandra was rescued but later died in the hospital, while Jimmy was unable to be rescued. Some valuables and pictures were salvaged, but most of the house was destroyed. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. Family, friends, and the community are grieving the loss of the couple.

The investigation began in August when the foster dad and the teen were reported missing; she was later found and disclosed the repeated sexual assaults during a forensic interview. The teen is now in custody of child protective services, which is struggling with a shortage of foster homes, exacerbated by such horrific incidents.

It’s one of the most disgusting cases the sheriff in Lowndes County said he has ever seen.
