Victims' families upset about Raul Meza's possible plea deal | FOX 7 Austin
SUMMARY: The family of Gloria Lofton, a victim of suspected serial killer, seeks justice following the murders of several individuals, including Jesse Fraga in 2023 and Lofton in 2019. After confessing to these crimes, the perpetrator, Mesa, is facing two life sentences, one without parole. Lofton’s daughters desire a chance for a trial and the death penalty for Mesa, feeling shortchanged by the plea deal process. They communicated their wishes to the Travis County district attorney, but the response indicated that Mesa’s plea deal would proceed. The family feels rushed and believes they deserve answers.
Raul Meza Jr. is scheduled to accept a plea deal in court on Monday, but the victim’s family is against it, saying they want the case to go to trial.

Federal judge strikes down part of 2021 Texas election law, AG Paxton to appeal | Texas
SUMMARY: A federal judge ruled that part of Texas‘s 2021 election integrity law violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Attorney General Ken Paxton plans to block the ruling, which is now with the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. The law aimed to regulate voting practices, including eliminating drive-through voting and increasing ID requirements for mail-in ballots. Critics, including several organizations, argued it suppressed voter turnout, especially among minorities. The judge’s decision halts enforcement of specific provisions, provoking responses from both Paxton and supporters of voting rights, highlighting the law’s controversial nature and ongoing legal battles.
