Vicksburg National Military Park to remain open in event of government shutdown
SUMMARY: The Friends of Vicksburg National Military Park and Campaign, the non-profit partner organization of Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi, has pledged to fund operations to keep the park open in the event of a government shutdown. The tour road, Visitor Center, U.S.S. Cairo Gunboat, and restrooms will remain open, with staff including interpretive rangers, maintenance staff, and law enforcement rangers ensuring minimal impact on the visitor experience. The funding for the park, which expires on September 30, 2023, at midnight, will be provided to prevent any visitors from being turned away.
