IRS nearing agreement to use its data to help ICE locate undocumented migrants
SUMMARY: The IRS is reportedly negotiating with the Department of Homeland Security to share information that could help ICE locate undocumented migrants. This partnership would allow ICE to submit names and addresses of individuals suspected of being in the U.S. illegally, which the IRS could cross-reference. Critics argue that involving the IRS could compromise taxpayer privacy, as the agency typically protects personal data. Two immigrant rights groups have sued the IRS and Treasury Department to block this information-sharing plan. Supporters of President Trump’s immigration policies argue that this is in line with voter expectations.
