US-Israeli soldier, thought to be taken hostage, confirmed dead in Oct. 7 attack, IDF says
SUMMARY: American-Israeli soldier Omare Neutra has been confirmed dead in Gaza after Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2022, while he served as a tank commander in the Israel Defense Forces. His body was believed to have been taken by Hamas, despite his parents holding out hope for his return. Meanwhile, Hamas recently released a video of another hostage, 20-year-old Adon Alexander, who has been captive for over 400 days. His father urged U.S. leaders to negotiate a hostage deal. The White House is actively pursuing efforts to secure the release of hostages and establish a ceasefire.

Election boards in NC could flip to GOP if court challenge fails
SUMMARY: Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper faced six legislative attempts to restructure North Carolina’s election boards, attempting to diminish his authority. Newly elected Gov. Josh Stein is now involved in a lawsuit over a recently enacted law that transfers appointment power from the governor to State Auditor Dave Boliek. This shift could lead to a predominantly Republican composition of the State Board of Elections and county boards, following a history of unsuccessful GOP efforts to control these boards since 2016. With a Republican majority in the state Supreme Court, future rulings on these power dynamics may favor the legislature’s interests.

Concealed carry reciprocity, backed by Trump, in U.S. House proposal | North Carolina
SUMMARY: The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, proposed by U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, aims to allow individuals with state-issued concealed carry permits to carry handguns across state lines. Supported by 124 Republican cosponsors and endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump, the bill seeks to simplify the complex patchwork of state laws regarding concealed carry. Advocates, including gun rights organizations, argue that the legislation protects Second Amendment rights and prevents legal issues for permit holders traveling between states. Recent litigation in Minnesota highlights the challenges faced by licensed carriers in states that do not recognize their permits.
