SUMMARY: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have approved updated COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, which will be widely available in Mississippi next week. The CDC recommends everyone six months and older get an updated vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 during the fall and winter. The CDC states that the virus is always changing and that protection from vaccines declines over time. Getting an updated vaccine can restore protection and provide enhanced defense against the variants responsible for most infections and hospitalizations. Hospitalizations are lower in those who received updated vaccines. Vaccinations and boosters are available at local pharmacies and healthcare providers in Mississippi, as well as at Mississippi State Department of Health clinics at no cost.

Coastal Mississippi’s economic future is bright if we diversify

Published

www.supertalk.fm – Ricky Mathews – 2025-04-03 11:44:00

SUMMARY: Coastal Mississippi’s economy heavily relies on gaming, military bases, and government contracts, generating around $1.6 billion from casinos and substantial employment. Ingalls Shipbuilding and Stennis Space Center contribute significantly as well. However, dependence on these sectors poses vulnerability, especially with competition from online betting and emerging markets. To secure long-term growth, the region needs to diversify beyond gaming and embrace manufacturing, particularly in high-tech sectors. A collaborative development strategy could promote Coastal Mississippi as a hub for technology and logistics. Long-term planning and investment in workforce training are essential for sustainable economic resilience and future prosperity.
