University of Mississippi advisor arrested for enticement of child
SUMMARY: Michael Smith, a 37-year-old academic advisor at the University of Mississippi, was arrested for enticement of a child after an investigation initiated by the Oxford Police Department in response to a citizen’s report. SUMMARY: Marvin Willoughby, a Memphis man, was convicted for the 2017 homicide of 28-year-old Freddie Mosley at the Mustang Motel in Jackson, Mississippi. The incident occurred on September 12, when police found Mosley dead at the scene. Investigators identified Willoughby as the shooter through surveillance footage. After a two-week manhunt across multiple states, he was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Kansas. Authorities revealed he was also involved in human trafficking and prostitution, bringing women to Jackson for sex work. Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced the conviction.

SUMMARY: A bridge on U.S. 80 over the Pearl River, at the Hinds/Rankin County line in Jackson, Mississippi, will be closed for several months starting December 2, 2024, due to deck replacement by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).
