‘Why had they sent me a ring?’: Diamond ring scam impacts Mississippians
SUMMARY: Mississippians are being targeted by a diamond ring scam, where unsolicited packages labeled from “Amazon Fulfillment” arrive containing fake rings and a QR code. Judge Tiffany Grove of Hinds County received one and, after researching it, discovered others had too. The included pamphlet claims the ring is certified by the “Gemological Research Academy”—a fake organization mimicking the legitimate GIA. Experts confirmed the ring is cubic zirconia, not a real diamond. Authorities warn scanning the QR code may lead to phishing sites. The Mississippi Attorney General’s office urges awareness, as mail scams are increasingly used to steal personal information or money.
