U.S. troops stationed overseas celebrate Thanksgiving
SUMMARY: While many celebrate Thanksgiving at home, U.S. troops stationed abroad feel the distance. CBS’s Tina Krauss reports that soldiers overseas are enjoying traditional meals with cultural twists, such as Korean foods like kimchi, while over 28,000 troops in South Korea receive special dining from higher-ranking officers. The Pentagon shipped 700,000 pounds of food globally, including nearly 140,000 pounds of turkey and a variety of side dishes and desserts. Soldiers express gratitude for their service, camaraderie, and the chance to work in their dream jobs, but many miss their families and friends the most.
While many of us are enjoying a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal with loved-ones, US troops stationed abroad will be feeling the miles more than most. CBS reports.

Weather alert day for heavy rain, impact day for strong winds and cold temps

Air quality in Los Angeles is under an alert due to smoke, and colder temperatures continue across the region. New Orleans experienced lows around 38°F, with cold fronts bringing potential heavy rain. A significant weather pattern is expected, with heavy rain arriving between 5-9 a.m., leading to widespread rainfall totals of 1-2 inches, and possibly more in some areas. Expect a temperature drop throughout the day, making for an inverted weather experience, with breezy conditions and cold air moving in afterward.
Meteorologist Devon Lucie tracks and times the arrival of heavy rain on Friday showing you when it begins where you are, when it ends, how much you’ll get, then shows you the big changes in temperatures that will happen from morning until the afternoon coming in with strong, gusty winds, and ending with your seven day forecast.

New Orleans City Council launches investigation into French Quarter security • Louisiana Illuminator
SUMMARY: The New Orleans City Council has initiated an investigation into the city’s street barrier systems following a New Year’s Day terrorist attack on Bourbon Street, where inadequate barriers allowed a suspect to harm many pedestrians. The investigation will assess the design, procurement, and maintenance of these barriers, and identify accountable parties. The council aims to improve future security rather than assign blame. The new barriers currently being installed are reportedly less effective than the previous ones. Council members emphasized the investigation’s goal is to enhance safety rather than scapegoating, with no defined timeline for its completion.
