Tracking the Tropics: We are still monitoring a low threat for tropical development in the Gulf
SUMMARY: Hurricane Kirk and Tropical Storm Leslie are currently positioned in the central eastern Atlantic, but neither is expected to impact the Eastern Seaboard or the Gulf of Mexico as they will remain out to sea. The National Hurricane Center has reduced the likelihood of tropical development in the Gulf, though some rain is anticipated for Florida this weekend into early next week. The status of potential tropical development remains uncertain. Currently, temperatures in the area are in the 50s and 60s, with a few clouds present.

Tracking the Tropics: Hurricane Kirk now a Category 3, Leslie forms, and the Gulf risk is lowered
SUMMARY: Hurricane Kirk has rapidly intensified to a Category 3 storm, while Tropical Storm Leslie has also been named. Both storms are not expected to threaten the U.S., with Kirk tracking west-northwest and keeping a safe distance from the East Coast. Leslie may also strengthen into a Category 1 or 2 hurricane by the weekend. Meanwhile, an area of disturbed weather is moving toward the Gulf of Mexico, with a low chance of developing into a tropical system. A cold front will bring slightly cooler air next week, leading to more fall-like weather, with highs around 87°F tomorrow.

Seeing Bare Grocery Shelves? Don’t Panic | Oct. 2, 2024 | News 19 at 6 p.m.
SUMMARY: Grocery stores in North Alabama are experiencing bare shelves, particularly for items like toilet paper and bottled water, reminiscent of shortages during COVID-19. This situation is not related to supply chain issues from the port workers’ strike, but rather a rise in panic buying as news of the strikes spreads. Ellie Taylor, president of the Alabama Grocers Association, urges consumers to buy normally to keep shelves stocked. While essentials should remain available, potential impacts from the strike may affect other industries, especially automotive and aerospace, leading to longer-term disruptions. Experts advise against panic and highlight that normal shopping behavior can prevent shortages.
