Tupelo Police Department hosts meeting for area church security teams

SUMMARY: In order to address the increasing need for security in places of worship, the Tupelo Police Chief in Mississippi held a meeting to educate churches on creating and training security teams. The chief stressed the importance of selecting the right team members and conducting facility assessments to identify weaknesses and points of entry. The chief also encouraged churches to keep detailed documentation of their security teams and training. The Mississippi Church Protection Act allows churches to create security teams and provides legal protections for team members who use lethal force to stop a threat.
