Kentucky State Police make arrests in chicken fighting operations
SUMMARY: The Kentucky State Police, in collaboration with the FBI, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Attorney’s Office, has made multiple arrests in a years-long investigation into illegal chicken fighting in eastern Kentucky. Surveillance from 2021-2022 led to critical information about operations in Pike and Letcher counties. Seven individuals faced federal indictments, with some pleading guilty. Sentences include incarceration, home detention, and fines. One individual forfeited $85,395 and dismantled the fighting arena. Plea agreements and ongoing sentencing proceedings are expected for others involved in the operation.

Active weather pattern kicks in to finish out the year
SUMMARY: Temperatures in Central and Eastern Kentucky are remaining above average following a mild Christmas. Light showers began Thursday, with highs in the mid to upper-50s, perfect for holiday returns. Moving into the weekend, an active weather pattern will bring consistent rain, with totals expected between 1″ to 3″ by Sunday, potentially causing minor flooding. Breezy conditions will remain, with temperatures again in the upper 50s. A brief respite is forecast for Monday, but more rain is expected on New Year’s Eve. The beginning of January could see colder air returning, requiring winter coats once more.

Report: Federal agencies spent millions of taxpayer money torturing cats | National
SUMMARY: A report by Sen. Rand Paul highlights over $1 trillion in taxpayer waste, including disturbing experiments on cats funded by federal agencies. The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) spent nearly $11 million on gruesome experiments, such as shocking cats for erections and defecating marbles. Another $2.24 million was allocated for feline COVID-19 experiments at Cornell University, resulting in the suffering and deaths of 30 cats. Additionally, $1.5 million went toward torturing female kittens at the University of Pittsburgh for motion sickness studies. The report questions the necessity and ethics of these taxpayer-funded projects.
