Trump’s Gaza plan shocks the world but finds support in Israel
SUMMARY: President Trump’s proposal to have the U.S. take ownership of the Gaza Strip and relocate its Palestinian population has incited outrage across the Arab world while finding unexpected support in Israel. In the wake of Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7 attack, many Israelis, including politicians from various parties, have shown openness to the idea, which was previously considered fringe. Despite its controversial nature and significant logistical, moral, and legal challenges, the concept now enjoys a platform in Israeli discourse. Opponents, including liberal Israelis, argue against the legitimacy of such forced displacement, stressing that it violates international law and humanitarian standards.

Bank of England expected to cut key UK interest rate to 4.50%
SUMMARY: The Bank of England is expected to cut interest rates for the third time in six months, lowering them to 4.50% despite inflation remaining above target at 2.5%. Economists anticipate this move due to a stagnating economy and declining employment, making immediate action necessary. While inflation is projected to rise due to new business tax increases, it is expected to trend lower towards the 2% target over time. This decision reflects broader trends as central banks, including the U.S. Federal Reserve, begin to cut rates following a decrease in inflation from multidecade highs.

Google scraps its diversity hiring goals as it complies with Trump’s new government contractor rules
SUMMARY: Google is discontinuing some of its diversity hiring targets, following a trend among U.S. companies scaling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. This change, communicated to employees, aligns with an executive order from President Trump targeting federal contractors’ DEI programs. Google’s parent company, Alphabet, also adjusted its annual report language, removing commitments to DEI, and noted ongoing evaluations due to recent court decisions. Despite prior efforts to increase representation, Google has seen limited progress in diversity within its leadership, with Black and Latino leaders remaining underrepresented. Other major companies have similarly revised their DEI commitments.
