Trump imposes tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China, raising prospect of inflation and trade conflict
SUMMARY: President Trump signed an order imposing tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China, citing the need to combat fentanyl trafficking and reduce illegal immigration. The tariffs, set at 10% on China and 25% on Canada and Mexico, risk escalating inflation and disrupting economic growth. Both Canada and Mexico retaliated with matching tariffs, while China has yet to respond. Critics warn of increased costs for U.S. households and industries. Despite the economic risks, Trump is maintaining his hardline stance on trade, signaling further tariffs in his second term. Democratic leaders blame him for potential price hikes on goods.

Michelle on the Money: Automakers track driver behavior; Jaguar Land Rover pauses shipments
SUMMARY: Jaguar Land Rover is suspending shipments to the US for a month due to new 25% tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on imported cars. As the US is a crucial market with over 200 dealerships, this pause will impact operations. Meanwhile, a 2023 study indicates that “buy now pay later” (BNPL) users often face high bank overdraft charges and late fees, negatively affecting credit scores. Additionally, many automakers are collecting driver behavior data, which can influence insurance premiums and loan terms. Consumers can limit data sharing but may lose essential features like roadside assistance by opting out.

Jaguar Land Rover is pausing its shipments to the U.S. A new Consumer Reports investigation revealed that nearly every major automaker is collecting “driver behavior data.” Experts warn buy-now, pay-later options aren’t best for shoppers.
