Trump assassination attempt hearing: Acting Secret Service director says he's 'ashamed'
SUMMARY: During a Senate committee hearing, acting Secret Service Director Ronald Row acknowledged failures surrounding the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13, 2024, in Butler Township, Pennsylvania. Row criticized the agency’s security measures, revealing that the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, managed to access a rooftop weapon unnoticed. He also blamed local law enforcement for not promptly sharing vital information about the incident. Meanwhile, Deputy FBI Director Paul Leate detailed Crooks’s troubling past communications. Local law enforcement disputed Row’s assessment, suggesting that ongoing investigations will eventually provide clarity regarding the failures and responsibilities involved.
