Tropics update: Atlantic disturbance could develop on way to Florida | Latest forecast
SUMMARY: Forecasting a tropical wave near the Leeward Islands has proven challenging due to numerous factors, including the presence of Saharan dust that hinders rapid development. Currently moving westward, the system could impact Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti with sporadic rain. Its journey may lead it to the Bahamas, where it has a 60% chance of developing into a tropical depression. Models show varying paths, with the European model suggesting minimal impact on Florida, while others hint at potential Gulf interactions. Overall, uncertainty remains, with crucial updates expected as the situation evolves into the weekend.
A tropical disturbance in the Atlantic has better odds of development as it approaches the Bahamas, in range of Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center. It now has 60% odds, an increase from 50% earlier this week. It could possibly become a tropical depression — and then possibly a tropical storm this week. FOX 35 meteorologist Brooks Garner takes a look at the latest forecast.
