SUMMARY: Lakeland’s police chief stated that officers‘ use of force, including a taser, was justified during a May incident involving a 16-year-old trespassing at a pool. A resident had called 911, requesting the teens stop cursing in front of children. Upon arrival, officers found no one was a resident or valid guest. After asking the group to leave, the situation escalated when the teen refused and resisted, prompting officers to use physical force. Bodycam footage showed the teen flailing and resisting. Although charges against him were later dropped, Chief Taylor defended the officers’ actions as appropriate and within policy.

Chief Sam Taylor said the officers were justified when they tased a teen during an incident in May when Lakeland Police were called to an apartment complex on Griffin Road.
