Tropical system could form this week: NHC
SUMMARY: There is a potential tropical system developing in the Caribbean, with a medium chance of formation as it approaches our region, influenced by dry air and Saharan dust. Currently a tropical wave, it may strengthen into a tropical depression or storm as it nears the Bahamas, but uncertainties remain regarding its intensity and track. If stronger, it could steer east; if weaker, it might head towards the Gulf of Mexico, impacting the Panhandle or Louisiana. With the hurricane season just beginning, increased activity is expected as August approaches, potentially leading to a record-breaking year for storms.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the central tropical Atlantic for potential development later this week. FOX 35 Storm Team Meteorologist Brooks Garner said huge uncertainty remains regarding where the tropical system will go and what it could become.

Lakeland Police released body cam video showing altercation between teen and two officers
SUMMARY: Lakeland’s police chief stated that officers‘ use of force, including a taser, was justified during a May incident involving a 16-year-old trespassing at a pool. A resident had called 911, requesting the teens stop cursing in front of children. Upon arrival, officers found no one was a resident or valid guest. After asking the group to leave, the situation escalated when the teen refused and resisted, prompting officers to use physical force. Bodycam footage showed the teen flailing and resisting. Although charges against him were later dropped, Chief Taylor defended the officers’ actions as appropriate and within policy.
Chief Sam Taylor said the officers were justified when they tased a teen during an incident in May when Lakeland Police were called to an apartment complex on Griffin Road.
