SUMMARY: Travis Lofton, the sole witness for his defense, testified about the murder of Jason Mallette in Daphne, claiming he was driven by the belief that Mallette sexually assaulted his wife, Ariel Allen. Lofton learned this was untrue, based on text messages and medical records revealing the claims were fabricated. On June 29, 2023, Lofton arrived at a restaurant two hours before Mallette and confronted him, resulting in Lofton shooting Mallette in the shoulder. Lofton expressed deep remorse, stating discovering the truth about the alleged assault “hurt him to the soul,” and apologized to Mallette’s family present in court.

A jury is expected to begin deliberations Friday in the murder trial of Travis Lofton after tearful testimony and an apology to the family of Jason Mallette gunned down outside a Daphne restaurant last year.
